About Cebu
The International Academy of Film and Television is located at the heart of Lapu-Lapu city. It is approximately 10 minutes away from the provincial airport and less than 30 minutes away from the city proper. Cebu is situated in the center of the 7,107 islands that make up the Philippine archipelago within the Visayas region. Because of this, the province has the convenient luxury of being in the middle of all trade and commerce from Luzon to Mindanao.Cebu is the education center for Central and Easter Visayas as well as Northern Mindanao. Cebu is known for its warmth and hospitality. You may immediately notice this, as even people you've never met before call you by first name and hug you like long lost family. While Cebuano/Visayan is the native tongue, Tagalog and English are commonly understood and spoken so getting lost in translation.
The province is also home to the best resorts in the country and is considered by many as the diving capital of the Philippines. And the best thing about Cebu is that many of the beaches and resorts are only about an hour's drive from downtown -- so you can snorkel by day and dress for cocktails at night. In contrast to the bustling metropolis, the rest of Cebu's 67 islets and islands are lined with white, sandy beaches and crystal clear waters and magnificent coral reefs teeming with diverse marine life.
Riding the waves, island hopping, scuba diving, parasailing, rock climbing, trekking, kayaking, biking -- Cebu has can be a thrilling playground for daring expeditions or a quiet getaway. IAFT's island home -- Mactan -- is famous for its fantastic diving grounds. It is also a province steeped in history, having both the oldest city and street in the country. A natural port for many grand expeditions from many different parts of the world, it is filled interesting historical landmarks including Magellan's Cross and the Lapu-Lapu Shrine (both of which are nearby), Fort San Pedro and the Basilica Minore del San Antonio.
